2008
- 2009 Soay Sheep Breeding
at Wind River Farm
We
have added three new rams, and three new ewes to our flock this summer and are
excited about our breeding groups for this fall.
Our
British Soay breeding groups are always set with genetics as the first priority
and looks secondary. However, we expect that we will have light phase "tan"
and white markings expressed along with the more typical wild mouflon pattern.
All of our British lambs for 2009 are currently reserved, however if you would
like to place your name on our "stand-by" list in the event we have
someone change their request or we have more twins than expected we'd be glad
to discuss it with you. Otherwise we are accepting reservations for British Soay
lambs for 2010 and 2011. We expect to make a Washington to Wisconsin trip again
in 2010, and a trip south in 2011.
We
will have two American breeding groups this fall as well with the chocolate and
red Soay produced from the outstanding work done by Kate Montgomery in developing
this line. We will also have American Soay being covered by some of our British
rams which should express "white markings" and possibly tan.
We
had 25 lambs born at Wind River this spring and all but four of them were sold
before they hit the ground, so we encourage you to get your reservations in early.
A deposit is required and payment arrangements are always an option.
Please
keep genetics in mind, we will be glad to use our Breeder's Assistant software
to help determine which of our lambs would be a good match for your existing flock.
